Wiggy had 2 Carp in the last 20 minutes but apart from that not a lot was caught!
Over 70’s match – Alders – 13th Aug 2025. Result: T Wirth 54-0-0, W Bowsher 11-10-0, S Myers 8-4-0, D Smith 7-4-0, B Pallett 6-0-0, K Haines 5-10-0, R Wiggins 5-0-0, H Sadler 4-4-0, M Burrows 3-12-0, K Rolfe 3-4-0. T Mortlock and K Cole DNW.
The Bream showed up at one end of the lake. The water level in this spring fed lake was very low. So much so that the railway bank was left out because anglers would have needed to wade out to get a keepnet in. That left the deep end of the lake where Tim Wirth found 13 Bream and 3 Tench for a very impressive victory. One of the anglers suggested that it might have been the biggest winning weight on an over 70’s match. Bill Bowsher had 2 Bream and 2 Tench and the other weights were made up of either one or two Bream and bits.
Over 70’s match – Bellwood on 10 Sep 2025. Result: D Smith 36-8-0, W Bowsher 5-0-0, H Sadler 4-12-0, B Pallett 3-5-0, K Haines 2-12-0, T Wirth and S Myers 2-0-0, R Wiggins 0-12-0. R Spiers, K Cole and K Rolfe DNW.
A weird match, sunny and showery with little wind. It was obvious that all of the Bream in the lake were in front of Dave Smith!! He had 7, we weighed 3 of them and they went 15lb exactly so they were peas in a pod (or Bream in a shoal actually!!). Everyone else had to persevere with roach and perch. Dave now knows the meaning of a red letter day!
Over 70’s match – Enborne on 1st October 2025 Result: A Megarry 7-2-0, W Bowsher 6-14-0, B Pallett 4-1-0, S Myers and H Sadler 2-8-0, last but not least D Smith 1-5-0! Alf caught a Bream that must have been 5lb and some bits including a very nice Roach. Bill had 3 nice Perch and Brian had a Tench and a nice Perch.
Wednesday 29th October 2025 – Over 70’s – Marshalls I didn’t fish the Over 70’s match because I had an RAF match to attend. A colleague ran the match for me and although I know that 12 fished, he has only given me the results for those that weighed in, which is fine because the Did Not Weighs’s don’t get a point anyway! Result: R Speirs 39-13-0, H Sadler 14-14-0, S Myers 12-12-0, B Pallett 11-5-0, K Hallis 8-12-0, T Wirth 5-4-0, W Bowsher 5-3-0 and A Megarry 3-10-0.
Over 70’s match – Avington on 12th November 2025 – As organiser Dave Smith never draws a peg, and always takes the one that is left. He was delighted to find that this time it was end peg flyer No 1!! Fortunately for him, he made the most of it with the help of a big perch. That just put his nose in front of Steve Myers who was on peg 2! On the day we thought that Bill Bowsher had done enough to win the Over 70’s Trophy, just pipping morning leader Brian Pallett to the title. Well done, Bill.
