Speen - River Kennet

Brief description of fishery:

Speen Moors is a very special piece of water which would be the envy of many clubs. We rent this venue from the land owners who in recent years have unfortunately allowed the area to become overgrown, with fallen trees and some stretches having become inaccessible. Since 2022, the owners have pledged to improve conditions and we are still in discussion with them to highlight priorities.  Parliament Draught is accessible through the locked gate on the western side towards the A34. There is also a weirpool by the public path to the south west. The remaining water is of differing depths and character and it is advised that members walk the water with the map in advance of fishing to gain a grasp on its size and variety of swims.

All river species are found, including chub, some large pike and many trout. All river methods will catch fish, but beware that crayfish can be a nuisance for legered baits.

Special Rules for this fishery:

Address

A stretch of multiple waterways of various characteristics that twists through Speen Moors

Access & Parking

Access to the Moors is not easy. Unsecured parking is available near the railway bridge in Bone Mill Lane off Enborne Road on the south side of the fishery, but is a good 10 minute walk. Alternatively, Speen Moors can be approached down a small track by the A34/B4100 roundabout (What3Words ref: twigs:riches:cure), which passes down alongside then under the A34, before becoming an untarmacked road to the river. Beware that sometimes the A4 access can be flooded where it passes under the bypass, and the track become very muddy. Also be aware that the permitted path can be very busy with Sunday walkers, but you should be in peace off this path and walkers without an NAA permit can be reminded that they are out of bounds.
