Enborne - K&A Canal

Brief description of fishery:

Just west of Newbury town the club has 2km of the K&A Canal running from Benham Bridge to Egypt point. The stretch is shared with pedestrians and cyclists apart from the section on the south bank west of Guyers Lock. This stretch is used frequently for matches and is renowned for perch, pike and silvers. The water here can be very clear in winter. To the east of Guyers Lock, fishing platforms have been erected at either end to give anglers more space from pedestians. Here the water can colour with run-off from the adjoining land, and has bream as well as perch, silvers and the occasional trout. Popular methods for both stretches are pole (please watch out for cyclists on the towpath) and waggler fishing with light tackle as well as lure fishing in the margins and lock features. Sadly, access by car is limited as the associated landowners are unwilling to allow canal-side parking except for a small number of pre-arranged match days each year.
