Bellwood Lake

Brief description of fishery:

Bellwood is one of the larger and deeper lakes owned by the club. It is approximately 4 acres and has 20 pegs. This is also the site of the club store hut and has basic toilet facilities. It suffered a catastrophic loss of fish due to an algal bloom in 2017, and after a permanent filtration system was introduced has since been regularly restocked, with further carp of the 8-15lb range added from our Willows lake in Spring 2022. Bellwood remains a mixed fishery, with reports of bream and roach catches reported, but also has a good head of carp of all sizes. This makes it a popular water with carp anglers, and given the limited number of pegs, some members post on the NAA members Facebook site to ensure there is space before travelling.

There are some large tree stumps submerged which are formidable snags. To avoid these tackle-traps and to reduce the chances of fish being tied, don’t cast anymore than 7 wraps from the point that sticks out from the east bank, 8 wraps from the canal (south) bank or more than 10½ wraps towards the middle from the river bank. It is strongly recommended that tackle strong enough to deal with large carp is used at all times (eg advisory minimum 15lb breaking strength) and to fish with a locked-up line if fishing at distance to avoid hooked fish bolting straight into the snags. As with all NAA waters, the use of lead-core is banned and bailiffs may make random tackle checks to ensure this is adhered to.
